What is moxibustion?
Moxibustion is a technique in Traditional Chinese Medicine that involves applying heat to specific points on the body using moxa, an herb that is burned near the skin to alleviate pain and stimulate the flow of energy in the body.
It is a needle-free form of acupuncture.

Pain and Discomfort Relief: Moxibustion can be used to alleviate common pregnancy pains and discomforts such as back pain, heartburn, fatigue, and insomnia.
Stimulation of Blood Flow聽
The heat produced by moxibustion can increase blood flow in the body, which may help alleviate fluid retention and improve circulation in the legs and feet.

Some studies suggest that moxibustion can help prepare the cervix for childbirth and reduce the duration of labor. It is also believed to assist in turning the baby into the correct position for delivery.
Emotional Well-being Improvement
Pregnancy can be a time of stress and anxiety, and moxibustion can be used to alleviate these symptoms and improve the emotional well-being of the pregnant woman.

Artemise Moxa
Artemisia moxa is an herb used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to alleviate pain and stimulate energy in the body.
It is applied by bringing the artemisia stick close to the skin, producing a pleasant sensation of warmth.
There are two types of artemisia sticks:
- Pressed herb sticks, which produce smoke.
- Carbonized artemisia sticks, which do not produce smoke.
My preference is for the natural pressed herb sticks. While it’s true that smoke can be a disadvantage in certain circumstances, it provides a more potent treatment, ignites faster, and produces more intense heat. Its scent is similar to sage, which, although subjective, I find pleasant.
Carbonized artemisia sticks, even though they don’t produce smoke, still emit an odor that, in my opinion, is not very pleasant.

Moxibustion point in pregnancy
Healthy baby moxibusting E36
There is a 2017 study published in the Journal of Acupuncture and Meridian Studies that found moxibustion on E36 during pregnancy has multiple benefits. However, it is important to note that E36 is not an exclusive point for pregnancy; in fact, it is one of the most important points, so much so that it is known as the Point that cures 100 diseases.
Where is the E36 point located?
E36, called Zuzanli, is a point located on the lower leg, about four fingers below the kneecap.
NOTE: In English nomenclature, this point is referred to as ST36, meaning that both E36 and ST36 are the same point.
In the video, you will be able to see which point we are referring to and how to apply heat with moxibustion.
Keep in mind that it should never reach the point of burning.
Apply for about 10 minutes on each leg for a minimum of 10 days.
